Denison Road West Upper Slope Stabilization – Class Environmental Assessment – Completed

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) completed a slope stability analysis and erosion risk assessment along several properties on Denison Road West under the Conservation Ontario Class Environmental Assessment (EA)  process, in the City of Toronto.

Approximate location of the project (shown as a golden polygon), southwest of Lawrence Avenue West and Weston Road.

Scope of Work

  • Start date: Spring 2019
  • Completion date: May 2022

In 2016, TRCA began construction of a replacement armourstone wall along the lower slope below Denison Road West to provide protection from erosion caused by the Humber River.

Following this work, TRCA initiated a study for several properties along Denison Road West under the Conservation Ontario Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for Remedial Flood and Erosion Control Projects in 2019. The goal of this study was to determine the extent of risk to essential infrastructure along the tableland. In 2022, the study was completed and concluded that no existing essential structures (e.g. dwellings) were at high risk of long-term slope instability. Therefore, TRCA will not be proceeding with the remainder of the Class EA process at this time.
