Tune Up and Turn Out for Bike the Creek!

The sunshine and clear roads are calling! It’s time to dust off your bike and get pedaling. And what better way to kick off the 2023 cycling season than taking part in the annual Bike the Creek event in Brampton on Saturday June 10!

Before you hit the trails, though, you’ll want to make sure your two-wheeled transport is in tip-top shape.

Regular tune-ups are essential for your safety, comfort, and enjoyment, and will help prevent wear and tear on your bike.

Here are some handy bike-tuning tips to help you prepare for that first ride of the season:

  • Before starting the process, clean your bike with a damp or dry rag to help you see areas that need attention and make it easier to work on.
  • Ensure that your brakes are working correctly. Check that the brake pads have enough material left and adjust them if necessary.
  • Make sure your gears are shifting smoothly. The chain should be clean and lubricated. Adjust the derailleur if necessary.
  • You may need to replace a rusty or worn chain if it is not clean and lubricated.
  • Check that your tires are inflated to the correct pressure and have enough tread.

  • All bolts on your bike should be tight, including the stem, handlebars, and seat.
  • Ensure that the pedals are tight and spin freely.
  • Take your bike for a short test ride to ensure that everything works correctly.
  • When in doubt, see a professional bike shop technician for all your repair and tuning needs.
