September 15, 2023, Brampton, ON — Today, the City of Brampton and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) announced the official opening of the new Claireville North Multi-Use Trail.
The new trail adds an additional 3.7 kilometres to the more than 600 kilometres of cycling, hiking and walking paths and trails currently within the City of Brampton.
The project also includes two new pedestrian bridges over the West Humber River, a fully accessible parking area and two new community trail connections.
Claireville North Multi-Use Trail enhances accessibility to one of Brampton’s largest greenspaces, while also expanding recreational opportunities for residents of the City of Brampton and the region.
Active Transportation is a crucial part of Brampton’s transportation solutions and 2040 Vision plan. Brampton is a livable city where all members of the community can safely and conveniently access places, goods and services and connect to transit using multiple modes of transportation.
Through developing an integrated, attractive, and accessible network of sidewalks, cycling infrastructure and recreational trails, residents and visitors alike have more options to move around the city and lead healthier and more active lifestyles.
TRCA is committed to balancing public access with ecological preservation, and the Claireville North Multi-Use Trail adds nine hectares of new forest, 2.2 hectares of new wetland habitat and approximately 14,000 new trees and shrubs.
The trail is a part of the West Humber Trail System and helps to accomplish key objectives of the province-wide Cycling Network, Brampton’s Active Transportation Master Plan (2019), TRCA’s Trail Strategy (2019), and the CCA Management Plan update (2011). This project was made possible through a collaborative effort between TRCA, the City of Brampton, The Region of Peel, and the Government of Canada.
