It’s July! School’s out, the sun is shining and the days are long. It’s the perfect time for a family getaway: to the cottage, to the beach … or to the past.
Just a short walk from Pioneer Village Station on the new TTC Line 1 Subway Extension, Black Creek Pioneer Village offers an immersive living history experience: an authentic slice of 19th century rural life in the heart of Canada’s biggest city.
Summer days showcase the Village at its liveliest. In addition to the usual slate of daily activities, July features special events ranging from Canada Day celebrations to Quilts at the Creek, a must-see for lovers of traditional handcrafts.

Hi, I’m Blythe — a history actor here at Black Creek Pioneer Village.
Well, summer’s finally here. Now there’s sunshine and warm weather, and more time to spend with your loved ones. The village is the perfect place to spend a summer’s day, where you get to be a part of living history of the Canada of the 1860s.
So what is happening at the village in July? Let’s find out.
First off, we’re making it easier and more affordable to visit the village this summer, with free admission for children aged 5 to 14 through July and August.
On July 1 and 2, why not come and party like it’s 1867! Celebrate our nation’s birthday in a unique and memorable way. Experience the excitement of a 19th century carnival as performers juggle fire and amaze you with unbelievable magic tricks. With musicians, theatrical performances and carnival games, this is an event not to be missed.
The artistry and detail of more than 275 stunning quilts will be on display throughout the village for Quilts at the Creek July 28 and 29.
Held in partnership with the Quilts at the Creek Collective and the York Heritage Quilters Guild, the event features trunk shows, vendors and your chance to get in on quilting. Learn how to dye and spin wool and take part in the quilt block challenge.
