Highlights of the tour included:

  • Gibraltar Point, where TRCA is undertaking an erosion control project to provide long-term protection of critical infrastructure and function of the Toronto Islands.
  • Ashbridges Bay, where TRCA is constructing a landform and breakwaters that will provide shoreline erosion protection in the bay and minimize sediment accumulation in Coatsworth Cut, reducing risk to vessel navigation.
  • The Inner Harbour, where TRCA has been working with Waterfront Toronto and the City of Toronto to improve and rehabilitate the mouth of the Don River.
  • Tommy Thompson Park, where TRCA restoration work is helping to preserve significant species, protect environmentally significant areas, and enhance aquatic and terrestrial habitat.

TRCA thanks the Minister for taking this time to explore and learn about our efforts to improve the health and sustainability of Toronto’s shoreline. We welcome the opportunity to continue to work together with partners at all levels of government to protect major infrastructure and support erosion and habitat control across the entire Lake Ontario waterfront.
