An excellent example of community-inspired green infrastructure, this new pond improves water quality and provides additional amenity space and a natural area destination for residents to enjoy.
About the Project
By bringing together the community and landowners, SNAP supported a multi-objective cost-effective solution that addresses both the issue of untreated stormwater and the need for irrigation of the local golf course.
This project was recommended in both the City of Brampton’s Stormwater Retrofit and Enhancement Program and the County Court Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan (SNAP).
The previously fenced-off dry pond has been converted to a wet pond that now also features a walking trail around the pond and naturalization plantings.
The construction of the wet pond and surrounding area installations were completed in 2020. The project includes:
- An innovative two cell stormwater pond
- A recreation trail for residents around the pond (approximately 10-minute walk)
- Beautiful armourstone seating
- 660 plants including 160 trees and 500 shrubs
- Option for future connection to golf course irrigation
The local community and the City of Brampton continue to work together on additional amenities and programming at the site.
Contributions to retrofit design were made by Dillon Consulting, Aquafor Beech and Schollen & Company Inc. Capital costs were funded by the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, and City of Brampton. Construction was undertaken by Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA).
